THE ALAMO
No place in Texas is better known or perhaps remembered than the famous ALAMO. It's rich history is a testimony to the great love and pride that the early Texicans had for their new land. Entering the main door leaves one with an immense feeling of awe and emotion. Many a grown man has confessed to giving way to a tear during their visit. Various tours of San Antonio begin and end their guided trips from this most famous battle site and no trip would be complete without including this shrine to courage and endurance in your plans.
Reach the Alamo in only 13 short miles from our San Antonio RV Campground.
THE HISTORIC SAN ANTONIO MISSIONS

The San Antonio Missions on the Southsides' Mission Trail unfold a story of not only San Antonio but Texas and even the United States of America. Although separately controlled today, the Alamo is one of the San Antonio Missions. A visit to the headquarters, San Jose will set your path with a short video about the missions and the unique features of each one. Some favored memories are the Rose Window at San Jose, the Aqueduct at Mission Espada, the beautiful architecture of Mission San Juan and the frescos of Mission Concepcion. Founded in the late 1600's and early 1700's these Missions were instrumental in both the lives of the Native Americans and their contemporaries, the Texicans.
Note: Bikers will want to visit the hike and bike trail with 8 miles of gorgeous terrain.

THE RIVER WALK
The San Antonio River is basic to life in San Antonio, in the early years of Texas as it is today. The River Walk that has grown up around it sets the pulse of all San Antonio. The Native Americans settled in the vibrant land around it because of its fertility and today it remains the lifeblood of this vibrant city. In the past two years, two new expansions, the Museum Reach (North River) and the Mission Reach (South River) have infused new life onto the river banks of this historic piece of Texas. Variety fills this venue, from a shopping hub, a center for theater, a sample of sheer beauty with its fountains, ponds, landscaped banks, culinary delights in hundred of eateries, and a river cruise that has a one of a kind lock system to enable its safe passage on several river levels. It truly inspires one to voice the sentiment "Viva San Antonio." Don't forget the splendor of the River Walk during the Christmas Season with it's millions of lights.

FREDERICKSBURG, TEXAS
Although one could spend days touring San Antonio alone, there are many other historic and quaint towns surrounding San Antonio. One such town is the German settlement of Fredericksburg, famous for its peaches, with its endless miles of Main Street dotted with fantastic restaurants, arts and craft shops, antique boutiques, homemade health and beauty products from herbal to aromatheraputic, wineries, breweries and herb farms. Oh, and did I say fantastic restaurants? Don't forget to stop off at the Frederickburg Brewery for a sampler of their home brews and a little weinerschnitzel. History buffs will enjoy the National Museum of the Pacific War, formerly the Admiral Nimitz Museum. If you're lucky you may be there during one of the lively re-enactments of WWII Battles on the Museum grounds.
We'll be glad to help you plan an exciting itinerary to these and other San Antonio favorites and the many interesting towns only short day trips from our San Antonio RV Park, Hidden Valley.
